To create a public awareness within the community and to show our support for Special Olympics, the Knights of Columbus, through our Flag Relay program, organized a number of flag raising events, some at City Hall, the local Police Station, and at the local schools. These flag raising events were coordinated through the K of C Diocesan Associations/Zones  and were held, leading up to the June Games, in late May and early June in the communities where a team will be competing at the Floor Hockey Championship.

The 2012 Special Olympics Ontario

Provincial Spring Games is coming to

 Kingston!

May 31 - June 3, 2012

The announcement was made yesterday in Kingston by Police Chief Stephen Tanner and OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis. The Spring Games will take place May 31 - June 3, 2012 and will be co-hosted by the Kingston Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police. Queen's University will house the athletes village and various sporting events. Over 800 athletes, coaches and volunteers will participate in sporting events that include:

  • 5-Pin Bowling
  • 10-Pin Bowling
  • Bocce
  • Basketball
  • Powerlifting
  • Swimming

"It is really an honour to be affiliated with these athletes and do everything we can to ensure they have what they need to achieve their goals," said Chief Stephen Tanner of the Kingston Police. “This is a tremendous opportunity for the city. Nearly one thousand athletes and others from across Ontario will have an opportunity to visit Kingston and see what we have to offer.”

“We are very proud of the role we play in supporting this exceptional organization,” said OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis, Chair of the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run. “It really is our honour to be affiliated with these athletes and to do everything we can to support them in achieving their goals.”

Law Enforcement agencies across Ontario have had a longtime partnership with Special Olympics. As well, the Law Enforcement Torch Run involves Law Enforcement personnel in a community based, province wide program. The Torch Run sets up community partnerships with sponsors, Special Olympics volunteers and local supporters, to reach a shared vision of helping athletes.
