KNIGHTS
OF COLUMBUS

ONTARIO
SPANISH NEW COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT AND PARISH ROUND TABLE PROGRAM
INTRODUCTION
The Secretariat for Hispanic
Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops expressed
in a recent newsletter that the "Hispanic ministry faces a
particularly difficult challenge, as Hispanics are now more than 40
percent of the Catholic population in the United States." In
Canada there are hundreds of parishes that offer Masses in Spanish.
This fact shows that the population of Hispanic Catholics is becoming
more important each day.
In light of these statistics, a
considerable number of Knight of Columbus councils have the
opportunity to take an active participation in helping their parish
priest in their work within the Hispanic parishioners. A practical
help would be forming a Spanish speaking K of C Round Table.
For those parishes that
celebrate Masses in Spanish and do not have a Knights of Columbus
presence consideration should be given to the institution of a new council.
The 2005-06 Hispanic Outreach
Incentive Program will present District Deputies with a $50.00 Visa
Gift Certificate and a New Council Development Plaque for each New
or Reactivated Spanish Speaking Council.
